My Morning Routine

I’d love to say I am one of those people that have my morning routine perfect. But realistically it really looks like this: Wake up early, decide to stay in bed a little bit longer, check cell phone - look at the time, mild panic attack because I’m running late and quickly get dressed and out the door. So I guess my morning routine isn’t perfect but over the past year, I have (in)consistently, tested many habits to incorporate into my morning routine and my goal over the next few months and have a solid morning routine with this three steps each morning:

  1. Five Minute Journal when I wake up:

One of the first things I love to do is wake up in write in my Five Minute Journal. This journal co-founded by Alex Ikonn. I have to say both Alex and Mimi Ikonn are two people that consistently inspire me and encourage my entrepreneurial spirit! The five minute journal is quite simple and broken into two parts: a morning routine and an evening routine. This routine includes gratitude, affirmations and reflections from the day. It literally takes five minutes and immediately notice a difference when I am consistent with it.

2. Hydrate Before Caffeinate

One of my favorite pieces of advice from motivational fitness coach Shona Vertue, is “Hydrate Before You Caffeinate” and I have to say it makes all the difference. Having lemon water in the morning before tea and coffee makes me feel more awake and helps me also get in my goal of 2L of water per day. I love to follow water with one of the teas by Pukka Herbs. Pukka teas are my favorite, I mean first let's talk about the packaging, they are so beautiful! I really noticed a different when having their FEEL NEW and CLEANSE tea in the morning. Both teas makes me feel refreshed and ready to start my day.

Fun side note: My favorite teas for the evening from Pukka are the Chamomile, Vanilla and Manuka Honey. I love adding this with a little oat milk before bed and I also love their blackcurrant beauty as an after dinner treat!

Once I have hydrated, I love my morning coffee - there’s nothing like a filtered coffee with oat milk in the morning!

3.Getting in the Right Mindset

The last step before getting ready in the morning, is finding some quiet time. I like to sit on my couch and relax. I usually find it hard to stay focus so I usually do this with a cup of tea or coffee. I will sometimes just since in the silence - no phones allowed- or put on a mediation by HeadSpace. The quiet time allows me really to just be present in the moment before the craziness of the day.

So here’s an overview of my perfect morning - as I said, most morning aren’t perfect especially on days when I am working out in the morning but I definitely notice a  difference when I put it into practice!
